I'll be honest, it's actually kind of embarrassing sharing these but progression is actually something to be proud of and everyone starts somewhere right? No one is an expert at anything without practice and continuous learning. I want to show what hard work and years of time looks like in terms of my photography.
Going back into my old files from when I started out with my very first DSLR camera, I cannot tell you how many times I told myself "oh these are awful, I can't believe they liked them back then!"
But back then, it was my best because I was just starting out and knew absolutely nothing about my camera, posing, composition, editing or anything else necessary to run a successful photography business. I was doing it all for free and handing out CD's. I did start charging embarrassingly low prices however at the time, I didn't understand this new venture and what it would require from me to make it where I am today. Obviously I thought my work was worth money back then, now I'm cringing at the thought of charging money for what I delivered but when just starting out, or even someone who has been doing this a while and produces great work but doesn't have a full understanding of charging their worth, we often don't think we're hurting anything.
I'm going to share little bits at a time and believe me, I have a LOT of progression images but here is where I started with newborn photography back in 2014 and now in 2018. I still have a ways to go as I am not quite where I want to be.
So you can see how much skill and technique can and does change over time with continued practice and education, this does not just come to a photographer the second they decide to join the world of photography, especially newborns. I had no idea how to pose them or what was involved in certain poses and I'll probably keep learning new skills the more I do it.
Progression is amazing when you can look back to where you started and actually SEE the hard work and determination. While I cringe at my old images, I am very proud of myself for continuing and stepping up to where I am now, and I'm excited to see where I'm headed!
